Electronics Design Engineer.
23/01/2025
Job Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to join an established company
developing world-class electronic instrumentation for precision
temperature measurement and metrology, with a “fast
track” to become the technical lead for the business
within a few years when the founder and current technical
lead retires. The successful candidate will have a good
degree in electronics and be ambitious and keen to learn.
The job involves mixed signal (analogue and digital) design
of electronic circuits, PCB layout/design and developing
embedded software (using C and C++). Also, selection and
sourcing of components, testing of prototypes, design and
testing for EMC and other regulatory compliance and production
of documentation including user manuals. You will be working
with and learning from our experienced lead electronics
designer as well as the mechanic design engineers to develop
the next generation of instrumentation. As times goes on
you will be expected to become the innovator and technical
lead for the business, with support from the outgoing founder.
The Company
Metrosol was founded in 2004 and is now recognised as
the supplier of the most accurate instrumentation for temperature
metrology and precision measurement with instruments capable
of measuring down to 30 ppb (0.000003%), equivalent to ±7.5
µK. Metrosol’s achievements were recognised
in 2017 when it received a Queen’s award for Enterprise
in the Innovation category. In 2019, its work on the development
of the world’s first practical Johnson noise thermometer
was recognised when the current technical lead (Paul Bramley)
received the Callendar medal from the Institute of Measurement
and Control.
The company is a micro business with only 6 staff currently
on the payroll. However, it collaborates closely with subcontractors
and other organisations so that its influence and reach
is extensive. In particular, Metrosol collaborates extensively
with the UK’s National Physical Laboratory, giving
it access to a wide range of technical experts as well as
specialised equipment. Metrosol will be acquired in 2025
by our current commercial partner (employing 50+ staff),
the leading UK manufacturer of temperature metrology equipment.
